The Montgomery County Chapter of WST strives to provide members and guests with a broad variety of events. While we admit to a great fondness for all things Texas, wines from other regions are often the focus of WST events. From casual gatherings to more organized events, you’ll meet people who share your love of wines, all while kicking the ol’ brain in gear a bit – every WST event has an educational element included, whether it’s learning about wine regions, or what “Fume Blanc” really means! Here’s a recap of recent WST/MC events:

JUNE 2006 - We gathered for a blind tasting of Cabernets from five wine regions. It was a unique event, not held at a restaurant or winery, but at “Brew It Yourself” in The Woodlands - the store carries wine and beer brewing equipment and supplies. A moderately priced Cab from France took the first slot, with a Texas Cab (from Becker Winery in Stonewall) coming in second.

JULY – We hosted a four-course dinner at the lovely Pallotta's Italian Grille. Served with a variety of Italian and French wines, the dinner table was alive with animated conversation. At month end Bernhart Winery celebrated its 1 st Anniversary with a special Sunday afternoon party and grape stomp, with local favorite Kevin Black “On The Porch” with his guitar. WST members were out in force, volunteering from everything from greeting guests to giving tours to pouring – and sampling – the new Bernhardt wines.

And here’s our calendar for the remainder of the year:

AUGUST - August will be hot and muggy, and so a light touch will be needed. We will host a “Summer Wine and Food Pairing” at The Corner Pub in Conroe on Tuesday August 22 nd.

We’ll sample five whites from around the world – Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Semillon - along with a special array of foods from The Italian Deli.

Cost is $20.00 for WST members, $25.00 for Non Members.

SEPTEMBER:

September 16 th – The WST’s anniversary gathering at Pillar Bluff Winery in Lampasas.

September 19 th - The Rotary Club of The Woodlands will host its first Wine Fellowship Dinner at the Waterway Marriott Hotel in The Woodlands. $85.00 per person.

Featuring wines from Alexander Valley Vineyards in California, and Spicewood Vineyards in The Texas Hill Country. Splendid four-course meal, live and silent auctions. Proceeds benefit The Rotary Club of The Woodlands Foundation.

While this is not an official WST event, we support our Rotary friends (many of whom are WST members) and their great work in the community.

September 23 rd - WST will assist with the first Montgomery Food and Wine Trail Festival in Historic Montgomery, birthplace of The Texas Flag. Expected crowd of 5,000.

Wineries and food vendors from all over the state will be featured

October 13,14,15 - The Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival. WST/MC will host The Go Texan Wine and Food area, which premiered last year. The Go Texan Tent was so popular that this year Go Texan has it’s own street and stage!

November - still in discussion.
